We are a friendly group providing support to families whose lives are touched by Downs Syndrome across Gloucestershire. Our group is centered around connecting together, providing safe spaces and having fun along the way.

Our roots go back to 2004 and we gained registered charity status in 2010. support to families throughout the Gloucestershire and Cotswold area. You can take as little or as much as you want from Cotswold Downs Syndrome Group and hopefully meet some long-lasting friends along the way.

Jenny King explains why Cotswold Downs Syndrome Group – Friends of Daniella, was set up:

“My beautiful daughter Daniella sadly died just before her 4th birthday from a complex congenital heart condition.

I wanted her to be remembered in a positive way and know that a lot of parents feel shell shocked when you’re first told your child has downs syndrome however, I wanted to share my experiences and show that Daniella changed our lives for the better.”

Our group is ran completely by volunteers who give up their time to run the group.

Meet some of the families we support

CDSG is a safe and happy place for families like ours to meet and enjoy life together. It’s a place where worries and fears can be shared, and our children’s achievements can be celebrated. It gives families hope that they and their children can and do lead normal, and fulfilling lives.

The group is really welcoming and friendly – I’m so glad I went along to sunbeams after our baby girl had a diagnosis of Down Syndrome. Jenny is kind, non judgemental and so supportive, the group has given me hope, reassurance and laughs! Jessica is spoilt with cuddles and love and has met fab fellow friends with an extra chromosome too!

Being able to talk openly and honestly about our feelings, without feeling we were being judged was invaluable. We discovered that our feelings were normal, that we weren’t bad people for finding it hard at first and we started enjoying Emily for who she is, not what we thought we wanted her to be. 7 years on and we are perfectly happy!
